Holiday cottage to rent

Situated in the ‘Goricko’ National Park in the North East region of Slovenia, this alpine style, three storey cottage, with modern facilities, sleeps 6 plus space for 2 cots. The cottage offers very comfortable accommodation in a tranquil setting, but just 5km away from Prekmurje’s largest town, Murska Sobota. Vaneca Cottage is just 5km from Terme 3000, a huge leisure complex that includes a 18 hole golf course and 22 indoor and outdoor pools of various depths and temperatures. There are slides, saunas and Jacuzzis. Various health and beauty treatments are available.

The cottage is a perfect base to explore the region, by cycling through the many pretty villages (we can even provide 6 bicycles), taking in the sights of the area which has been named ‘The sleeping beauty of Slovenia’. Another advantage of choosing the Prekmurje region is its proximity to 3 other countries. Austria, Hungary and Croatia are within striking distance. Please note that Vaneca Cottage is non-smoking, however smoking is permitted outside.

The kitchen has a 4 ring cooker with grill, electric oven and microwave, fridge with freezer and kettle and coffee maker. In the living room there is a sofa bed and chairs and a traditional, tiled wood burning heater. The dining room consists of a dining area with seating for 6 and a child’s highchair. A fully equipped bathroom is provided and the bedrooms sleeps 6 with one double bedded room, 1 twin and a sleeping gallery with twin beds. There is also space for two cots.

An audio tape player, CD, DVD, video, radio, satellite TV, portable stereo and a portable TV in the bedroom are provided for your entertainment.

The summer Kitchen contains a 2 ring electric hob, washing machine, fridge freezer, pool table, table football and dart board.

Outside there are two balconies, vines and fruit trees, parking, patio table and chairs, sun loungers, children’s sand pit, playhouse, toys and swings. The outside space includes a decked BBQ area, and the garden contains fruit trees and wine producing vines.

Local activities include: walking, cycling, fishing, golf, horse riding, mountain biking, swimming, tennis, wine tasting, hot air ballooning, thermal spa and a casino.

Children are very welcome, as are long term renters. Pets will be considered (please ask when booking), however, because of the location, the property is not accessible by wheelchair. The nearest airport is in Graz, Austria, about 75km or one hour away. The owners are British but now live just 5km from their rental property.

Prekmurje Region

House in Fokovci Village

The house is located in the heart of the Goricko nature park in a typical pretty Prekmurje village. This is 2 bedroomed detached property arranged over one floor that can sleep 8. The property contains two bedrooms. One is a large family room with a double bed and single bunk beds and a cot, the other is a twin/double room. There is a large, fully equipped kitchen with all mod cons and a living room with TV with English channels, DVD player, stereo and video. The living room also has a sofa bed which could sleep 2 extra guests. The house has central heating and mains water.

The garden is fully enclosed by a fence and a gate, ideal for children and pets. There are over 100 fruit trees and a vine yard. You will find a purpose built sun terrace and BBQ area, and for the children there is a sand pit, trampoline and paddling pool as well as plenty of space to run around in.

Prekmurje is known for its wine and water. There are five Thermal spas that are in easy driving distance of the cottage which can be enjoyed by all the family. The best restaurant in the area, called the K Rotunda, is located in the next village, and if you want to enjoy a few bottles of the local wine then the bikes that are free to use by guests can be used to get to and from the restaurant.

The cottage is located in an ideal place to allow you to explore more of Slovenia as well as the 3 other countries - Austria, Hungary and Croatia that border this part of Slovenia. All these countries are approximately 25 minutes by car from the cottage. The largest lake in Europe, called Lake Balaton, is in Hungary about 1.5 hours away. The medieval city of Graz in Austria is just over 1 hour and Maribor, Slovenia’s second largest city and where the ski slopes are located, is just over 1 hour away.

If you don't want to rent a car, then there is a railway station in Murska Sobota; the bus station is also in Murska Sobota. Tourist information is 6km away. Other activities include: local wine tasting, walking, excellent cycle routes and ski slopes in both Slovenia and Austria 1 hour away.

The cottage owner offers airport transfers from both Graz airport (Austria) and Maribor airport (Slovenia); both airports are serviced by the low cost airline Ryanair. The cottage owner can also arrange a local rent a car at very reasonable rates.

Rental charges are by the day. The period can be taken from and to any day. The price is for the cottage and not per person and includes all towels, bedding and cleaning service. A non refundable deposit for 3 days stay is required to confirm the booking.

This property is suitable for holiday Couples and families but long term renters are also welcome, as are well behaved pets.

Kranjska Gora Region

The Mihov Dom on the road to the Vrsic Pass

This is our favourite Dom in the Kranjska Gora area. Situated within the Triglav national park on the hairpin bend road on the way up to the Vrsic pass this lovely little Dom has fantastic views from its beer garden over towards Spik, Razor and Stenar. It is an ideal stay over for making an early start when tackling Spik, Kriz (on the way to Stenar and Razor) and the ascent to Prisank through the first window. If you don't want to climb mountains, just opposite is the lovely alpine meadow where the last version of Heidi was filmed.

The Dom has a lovely cosy main room where food is served all day long. The food is home cooked at the site and is filling, basic Slovene cuisine such as goulash and jota.

Upstairs on 2 levels there are 2 double bedrooms and 3 further sleeping areas for larger parties.

    Slovenia in roughly the size and population of Wales. It joined the EU in 2004 and the currency is the Euro. The main language of Slovenia is Slovene, however most people speak English. The country has a vast amount to offer from its alpine villages to its Mediterranean coastline. Places to visit include the capital Ljubljana, the beautiful Lake Bled & Lake Bohinj and the spectacular Postojna caves.

    There is no need to hire a car with this property because of good transport links to Vrsic Pass, Lake Bled (direct link once a day) Trevisiio and Italy, Ljubljana, and the local villages such as Podkoren and Mojstrana. There are several buses a day up to Vrsic in July and August and some bank holidays which also go through to the Trenta Valley and Bovec. Most of the stops are by doms (restaurants/bars). You can also walk between the stops or over the mountain range and descend through Planina to Ratece. Great for climbers!

    Mojstrana itself is in the heart of the Slovenian Julian Alps, just a few miles from both the Italian and Austrian borders. It is surrounded by rocky peaks, making this a perfect spot for a winter ski holiday or a summer hiking trip. Alternatively, you can laze on the beachs at Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, and other sports facilities such as tennis courts and football pitches are on your doorstep. Although Mojstrana has its own beginners' ski slopes, experienced skiiers can make the most of the major resort of Kranjska Gora which is just a 10 minute car ride away. (public transport is also an option).

    Mojstrana has a good bus service to Kranjska Gora, Jesenice (where there is a major railway station), the capital, Ljubljana and Lake Bled. It is about 40 - 50 minutes from Ljubljana airport.

    Lake Bohinj Region

    A lovely house to rent in a beautiful rural setting with stunning views.

    The house has two floors and a total area of about 60m2. Downstairs is a small entrance hall, bathroom with toilet and shower, kitchen with dining room and living room with a big wood oven.

    Upstairs there are two rooms and a balcony. There are between 5 and 7 beds available; one double bed, a double futon and single futon – they can be put together, where up to three children can sleep easily. Downstairs there is a couch, that turns into another bed. In the house there is electricity, but for now no internet – probably coming in near future.

    Around the house there is a lot of space; grass, a small hill next to the house, two outdoor tables, a fire place, a garden with herbs and two parking places.

    For those, who don't know Bohinj and don't know, what to do here: in summer the location of the house is a perfect starting point for trekking in the Slovenian Alps (from a tour of a couple of hours to one lasting four or more days). The famous Lake Bohinj is only 5 minutes from the house for swimming, sailing, renting a boat. The river Savica is near by for rafting and canoeing, and you can paraglide from the mountain Prsivec, free-climb on the rock Pod Skalco, cycle around, horse-ride. There is even an adrenalin park close by. In winter you can ski, snowboard on Vogel or Kobla, trek and mountain ski, cross country ski (also at night under the lights), ice climb, ice-skate, swim and go to the sauna in one of the best Slovenian aqua parks in Bohinjska Bistrica. Other little secrets are for you to find out.

    Lake Bohinj Region

    The apartment which sleeps 4, is situated 5 mins walk from Kobla ski station and 15 minutes drive from Vogel; it is also close to the restaurants, bars and local amenities of Bohinjska Bistrica. With the Aquapark 10 minutes walk away plus lakes Bohinj and Bled close by, hiking and walking are possible all year round.

    The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and dining area for 4 people. The kitchen includes a ceramic hob, oven and fridge.

    Set in the Triglav National Park, Bohinjska Bistrica is a fabulous base for all year-round outdoor activities. In the area there are opportunities for skiing, snow-boarding, swimming, rafting, sailing, kayaking, hiking, mountaineering, golf, tennis and mountain biking. Bohinjska Bistrica is 10 minutes from Lake Bohinj, 15 minutes from Lake Bled and 2 hours from the coast. The village has ample restaurants and shops. There is also a unique car train that takes you through the mountains towards the Italian border saving a long, twisty car journey.

    Soca Valley Region

    Maharac country house in Kamno

    This country house, Maharac, in Kamno has two large apartments (90 and 110 m2), with two and three bedrooms. It is a quiet location and the apartments are comfortable for a longer stay. The house has several terraces and a large (1000m2), child friendly garden with enough privacy. You can park off road next to the apartments. In Kamno there is a cafe and a shop.

    Kamno lies between Kobarid (5 km) and Tolmin (7 km) near the border of Italy and is in the region known by some as Slovenia's Tuscany. It is a perfect starting point for many outdoor activities and only 300 metres from Maharac are several beaches on the turquoise blue Soca-river famous for its water sports.

    Kamno is located at the border from the Triglav National Park, one of the largest natural parks in Europe. During the whole year many activities are possible; walking, hiking, fly-fishing, almost all outdoor sports, kayaking, rafting, parasailing, skiing, (off road) motor cycling, mountain biking and swimming in the rivers Soca, Nadi˛a or Idrijca. The ski areas of Kanin and Crni Vrgh/Cerkno are 24 and 40 km away respectively. In Kamno there is also a basketball field and a football field.

    In the surroundings area are several excellent restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and well known museums. For those who like it there is a new Casino in Kobarid, Aurora, and Nova Gorica (40 km) is classed as the casino town of Slovenia.

    The cities Cividale and Udine are just over the border with Italy (30-50 km from Kamno). Venice (170 km) is easy to reach by car and train.

    Maharac is an excellent spot for families, hikers, nature lovers, outdoors sports, parasailing, fishermen, motorcyclists and winters sports.

    House in Drobocnik, Most na Soci

    Located in Drobocnik, two kilometres above the beautiful village of Most na Soci in the Soca valley region of Slovenia, this exclusive property is all about location. Perched on a plateau, the house boasts stunning views of the Soca river with a backdrop of the majestic Julian Alps.

    Full of fine antiques, the property itself is a huge, old, traditional farmhouse which has been lovingly and caringly restored, with no expense spared. With its thick walls and vaulted ceilings, the house is both warm in winter and cool in summer. On the ground floor, the traditional hefty stone floor is warm underfoot thanks to underfloor heating, as are all the bathrooms. Also on this floor is a large kitchen and formal dining room, a utility room, WC, sauna, wine cellar and an informal 'snug', complete with a huge plasma TV, beanbags, a large selection of DVDs and an XBox and games. A beautiful rustic oak staircase leads up to the first floor with its three ensuite bedrooms and wide floorboards. The showpiece of the top floor is a 200 year old parquet masterpiece taken from an old palatial house in Ljubljana. A kitchen, open log fire, huge comfortable sofa, Sky TV and wireless internet are also located on the top floor, as is the master bedroom. Both kitchens have beautiful stone sinks and work tops, and the ovens and hobs are extremely high-quality. All necessary kitchen equipment is provided, including heavy-duty saucepans, toasters and kettles.

    The house has 4 ensuite bedrooms, all with top quality beds and views of the Soca valley. Sleeping between 8 and 11 people, there are two double rooms, one twin room and one room with two small doubles (ideal for two adults or four children). There is also a single sofa bed with its own bathroom on the top floor. Every bathroom boasts a top of the range shower and deep bath. The larger bathrooms feature twin sinks and jacuzzi baths, to ensure that you experience this stunning country in style and luxury. Downstairs, there is a sauna and shower. Fluffy robes hang from the bedroom doors and equally fluffy towels hang from the heated radiators in the bathrooms. Slippers and hair dryers are also available. The tranquility of the area ensures perfect sleeping conditions and guests have informed us that it is very difficult to get out of bed in the mornings!

    Outside, steps lead down to the swimming pool and paths lead around the extensive grounds and past many wild flowers to a cave at the bottom of the garden. There is a balcony, outdoor kitchen and eating area and many benches to sit and enjoy being outdoors. Fruit trees are numerous and include kiwis, walnuts, apples and pears. A herb and vegetable garden set in a beautiful old ruin mean you can pick your own produce on a daily basis.

    A welcome hamper will be provided on arrival with everything you could want after a long days travelling. Continental breakfasts can be arranged and evening meals can be prepared by a top-class local chef so please enquire for more details if you are interested. Cleaning is provided twice weekly. A laundry and ironing service and babysitting are available at additional cost. Many activities are on offer, such as walking, fishing, wine-tasting, paragliding, bird-watching, hunting, skiing and a wide variety of watersports. The activities are obviously seasonal and some need to be booked in advance, which we can organise. A wide variety of local wines are available from the wine cellar, at extra cost.

    The house is 3 km from Most na Soci railway station, where you can take a car train through the long tunnel through the mountains to Lake Bohinj in 40 minutes and drive another 10 minutes on to Lake Bled. At Bohinj you can ski the Vogel resort. Otherwise, Kanin ski resort in Bovec is a 45 minute drive, as is Cerkno ski resort. The house is 1 1/4 hours from Ljubljana and 1 3/4 hours from Venice. It is also 1 1/2 hours from Croatia and 50 minutes from the Postojna Caves.

    Prices start at 1750 GBP for the whole house per week.
